In this session, you will learn about Indigenous youth leadership and engagement though the Akwesasne Youth Council. We will focus on the following:

1) The unique history and geography and governance challenges within our community;

2) The history and the role of the Akwesasne Youth Council;

3) The Akwesasne Youth Council’s approach to empowering Indigenous youth;

4) Lessons learned from the Preparing Our Home workshop.

About the presenter:
Mia Francis is currently an education policy analyst for the Independent First Nations, working alongside her home community of Akwesasne and 11 other First Nations in Ontario. Mia’s three-year term with the Akwesasne Youth Council will be coming to an end in March.

This sharing circle is a great opportunity to reflect and share lessons learned from youth leaders within First Nations communities.
